Chris Haskell at Whip City

WESTFIELD, MA – Facing a total of 48 opponents, Chris Haskell won a pair of late season, extra distance races at Whip City Speedway, taking both the 30 lap East Coast Mini Sprint Association 750cc Fall Final and the 25 lap Empire Lightning Sprints/ Whip City 1200cc feature.

A statistically improbable chain of events placed Haskell on the pole for both races. During time trials, he tied for eighth fastest in both classes, but because he was the second car to do so, he was awarded ninth. Only 8 cars were eligible for each Dash for Cash, so he was relegated to the sidelines for those races. The winner of each Dash was tasked to draw a pill numbered between 5 and 12 for the invert and both winners drew number 9, which placed Haskell on the pole for both races.

\"A\" Main Line Up Procedure Adjusted

Effective immediately, CNYMS will use the following process for qualification and starting positions. The Open Draw with Passing Points system will still be in effect at all shows on the A Verdi Storage Containers / CNYMS tour. The process that will change will be the order in which the A main will be lined up. The top 16 in heat finishes utilizing the passing point system will lock directly into the A main. The top 12 or half of the field will then use the redraw system to set the first three or four rows for the A main. If the top 4 finishers from the tours previous race are in the top 12 they will automatically be placed into the 12th to 9th positions with the previous race winner starting 12th and the 4th place finisher starting 9th. If the top 4 finishers do not qualify into the top 12 spots they will then start in the order in which they gain heat passing points. If one of the previous weeks top 4 does not get into the draw it will then allow for others to fill into the 5th or 6th rows. Complete Story

Howland / MEM Winning Combination at Thunder Alley

Sodus, NY The temps were hot and so was the action this past Friday at the Capraras Thunder Alley Speedpark with Flyin Bryan Howland picking up the A-Main win on the last half lap. It looked as if the French speaking Daniel Lampron was going to score his first ever CNYMS A-Main win after staying out in front from the drop of Matt Burdicks green flag.

The very likeable competitor from north of the border was in position to pick up that elusive victory. There was one small problem and that was a fast closing former rookie and champ, Bryan Howland. Howland would take 13 of the 15 laps to get things figured out back behind the wheel of a 1200 mini sprint but that was where it counted. The 15M out of Mike Emhof Motorsports would work under the current points leader, with just a lap and a half to go and after taking the white he would once again pull to the low side of turns 1 & 2 to take the top spot going down the back stretch and be the first to the checkers. Howland was overheard saying to crew chief, Dan DeMarree, you better check the steering pump, this thing steers too hard. Of course he was kidding a bit as the Mini Sprint has no power steering.

Harvey Into Opening Night CNYMS Win at Utica-Rome

Story by Rich Vleck

Vernon, N.Y.- Despite redrawing the worst possible number for the feature, Don Harvey II. had no problem getting up to the front early and often; the tough part was just hanging on to the lead.

After taking over the race lead when Bubba Broderick blew his motor on lap nine, Harvey was starting to run away from everyone until Rich Wood Jr. mounted a charge in the closing laps. Harvey stayed smooth for the final four laps to hold off the motor builder to pick up his third win on the Utica-Rome Short Track. Some guys dont like racing on this new short track, but I really do like it, said the Milford, N.Y. driver in Victory Lane. I knew Rich was coming but I had a line that worked for me and that seemed to pay off.
