Moore Earns First Career ELS A-Main

By Toby LaGrange
Malta, NY - Jon Moore arrived at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday afternoon looking for his first career Empire Lightning Sprint feature win, when the checkered flag flew on the 20 lap A-Main at around 9:30 pm he had what he came for.

Moore and Jerry Sehn led the field to the green with Moore taking the initial advantage. The races only caution would fly on the start as Ed Warren would spin in turn two. When the race returned to green Moore continued to lead with the K & S Powersports number 92m of Doug Norrie following. Moore wasted no time in pulling away from Norrie, holding about a straight-a-way advantage by lap five. Likewise Norrie had opened up a large advantage over third place runner Scott Goodrich.

With the top three solidly out front, the battle for fourth heated up between Sehn and Mike Kiser. Kiser would take the position. As the race approached the half way point Moore started to enter heavy lapped traffic for the first time. The traffic had no effect on Moore however it did tighten up the race for second between Norrie and Goodrich.

Norrie was able to fend off Goodrich who himself had to deal with the number 14m of Matt Norrie. Goodrich never relinquished third. Despite the traffic no one could catch Moore who would cruise home for the win and in the process become the third ever ELS feature winner.

Doug Norrie would distantly follow Moore across the line for second with Goodrich third, Matt Norrie fourth and Kiser fifth. Moore and Matt Norrie would win the heat races.

The Empire Lightning Sprints will return to action on Sunday July 26th at the Devils Bowl Speedway. Find out more about the ELS on the web at www.empirelightningsprints.com.
