$1,000 Challenge added to Big Races for 1200cc and 750cc Mini Sprints
By Mark McKeon
WESTFIELD, MA Saturday September 20 promises to be the most exciting night of the year at Whip City Speedway in Westfield, MA, with extra distance, extra purse races for both the 1200cc Mini Sprints and their 750cc colleagues. An extra added $1,000 challenge by International Paper Products Corporation could result in the biggest payday of the year for a pair of drivers.
For the 1200cc Mini Sprints, K&S Powersports, Haskell Motorsports and Mike Emhof Motorsports present a 25 lap feature paying $1,500 to win from a total purse of $6,000.
The traditional East Coast Mini Sprint Association Fall Final, sponsored by Hoosier Tire, Spectro Oils of America and Phillips Industrial Service should draw another full field of 750cc Mini Sprints. The winner takes home extra cash and all competitors are eligible for cash and prizes.
Both the 1200cc Mini Sprints and the 750 Mini Sprints will compete in their own program of time trails, heat races, a dash for cash and a feature.
The International Paper Products Corporation $1,000 Challenge works like this: In both the 1200cc and 750cc features, the two fastest drivers will be challenged to give up their starting spots and start from the rear of the field. If a driver accepts the challenge and goes on to win, he or she will pocket and extra $500. A second place finish by a challenge driver is good for $400, a third place gets $300, a fourth place gets $200 and a fifth place gets $100. Only the highest finishing challenge driver in each class gets the extra cash and complete details will be posted and announced at the track.
The Quad 4 Midgets, 4 Cyl Street Stocks and the 250 Youth Sprints will share the bill on this special night of racing. Two-Seater Sprint Car Rides will be available to the general public. Rain date is October 13.
The entry fee for 1200cc Mini Sprints is $75 while the entry fee for the 750cc ECMSA Fall Final is $30 for members and $60 for non-members. Pit passes are $25.
Adult grandstand admission tickets are just $12 while kids 10 years and younger are just $3. Parking is free and Whip City Speedway is located 30 minutes from Hartford, 60 minutes from Albany, 90 minutes from Boston and just a hop, skip and a Mini Sprint flip from both I-91 and The Mass Pike.
