Hench wins A-Verdi Storage Containers / CNYMS Opener
On the initial start of the race the 26 of Shawn Gosselin did an easy roll as he got caught up in the concrete turtles and mud which brought out a caution. With the yellow displayed, winner of heat 2, Tim Durland had to avoid a slowing car going into turn three and caught a heavy cushion which folded his oil cooler and dropped oil over much of turn 3 & 4. Once all was clear the race would resume with an original starting line up minus Durland and Gosselin.
From his pole position Rick Hench would jump out to an early lead and never look back in the nonstop 20 lap event picking up his first win with CNYMS in almost two years.
“Starting up front definitely helped but we had a good setup today,” said the driver of the Henchraft No. 1. “Leading out in front I didn’t know if anyone was close, but I guess we were OK.”
As Hench stretched out his advantage, Ralph Utter had an impressive opening performance in Kenny Latour’s No. 36, holding off two-time defending champion Don Harvey Jr. for second. Mike Kiser drove a brand new all-black car up to a fourth place finish after missing his heat race. Jerry Sehn Jr put a solid run together to finish fifth. Justin Phillips Denny Lamke Scott Muller, (M&M Motorsports team cars), Rick Russell & Dale Friedly rounded out the top ten.
