Race Director Named by CNYMS Management
Greetings from the road! I know this is a bit later than it should be but with the deadline right around the corner and the racing season due to start soon, I know you are all chomping at the bit for an update on the 2008 season and an idea on what’s ahead for CNYMS.
We are going to see a couple of staff changes this year. As many of you remember from the banquet, we’ve said farewell to Pit Steward Phil Dana and we are welcoming a new Race Director, Craig Hawley. Craig comes to us with an extensive background in racing and already familiar with the CNYMS organization. With the addition of Craig, we still need some additional help on race day. Tammy will continue to do sign-ins and handicap the heat races and main events; Bob will continue his pit steward duties in the pits but we do still need to have that set of hands trackside to help the safety crews and track officials. With that in mind, if you know of anyone interested in working with us throughout the season as a pit steward, please encourage them to get an officials application filled out and sent in!
With the addition of Craig to our management team, I feel much more confident to expand my original plan of only six to eight races to 12 or 14. A final schedule will be posted to the CNYMS website in the next few weeks. In the mean time, the 2008 season will kick off at the 22nd Annual Motorsports Exposition & Trade Show on the weekend of March 7-9 in Syracuse. Now is the time to reserve a spot for your car in the CNYMS booth for this event. Contact the Gater Racing News office at (315) 457-0175 for paperwork if you did not receive any in the mail. Remember, showing your car at a motorsports promotional event grants you bonus points as does helping out by manning the booth for a couple hours.
Speaking of the 2008 season, all competitors and car owners interested in competing on the CNYMS tour this year are encouraged to take advantage of the pre-registration process which has a postmark deadline of February 15th. This is the opportunity for drivers to reserve their car numbers and gain a few bonus points for the upcoming season. Getting those extra 15 bonus points could be the difference between first and third at the end of the year! To help things along, enclosed are applications for drivers, owners and associate members.
Good luck to all our race teams! We look forward to an exciting 2008 CNYMS season.
